In Reply To: But I've also lived in other cities, which is why I'm saying it's not a story. Unless you maybe try covering it from a perspective which isn't so ridiculous to the rest of the country. NYers are just whining about something the rest of the country accepts as business as usual. Yes, unfortunately, I know how crazy rents/housing prices are in the NYC area. And the prices certainly aren't worth it. But do you understand that rents rise in EVERY city in America (and it's usually 10%) and no one thinks it's a big deal? Why should NYers think they're entitled to frozen rents? That's the mentality rent control has bred. No one else in the entire country thinks they can keep the same rent price for years and years -- unless they've signed a 10 year lease (or something equally insane). If NY had a law like most other cities and states about a maximum percentage to raise rents once you're off lease or go beyond a set period of time (usually a year), and if they outlawed rent control, rents would stabilize. And if companies were smart, they'd start moving their businesses to areas of the country which have better costs of living and lower housing costs.
Message: "NYers are just whining" "no one thinks it's a big deal?" "No one else in the entire country thinks they can keep the same rent price for years and years" Really? You couldn't me more wrong. In the future you may want to stay away from generalizations when trying to prove a point.
