I watched KOIN this morning because i puke everytime i see the today show on KGW.
The whole crew seems like nice folks, but they are just a bunch of strangers.
Except for Gianola and the clueless Kelly Day and the ageless Mike Donahue the whole fricking place is staffed by people from somewhere else going somewhere else.
For the new ND, here is the answer. Steal people from KGW or KATU. They treat their reporters like shit, so throw them some money and get some familiar faces.
Drop a wad of cash and get Brenda Braxton. Maybe she would like a 5pm job instead of the early show.
But you can not win with strangers. Get some local well known talent.
Thats what i think. and it costs a lot less than some consultant from somewhere else.
Find everybody that has left KGW in the last few years and hire them all. your ratings will jump. I guarantee it. |

Why would anyone who's spent 20 years building a following in Portland go to work for a sinking ship like KOIN? What's your career worth? an extra 50k? 75k? You couldn't throw enough money at an established KGW anchor to get them over to KOIN. That's why KOIN will continue to hire young and cheap out of Albuquerque.
