In Reply To: For a reporter job, you should start low....usually 150 or lower. For an off camera job such as producer or assignment editor, you could probably start in the low double digits, say somewhere 80 or lower. Not so sure about photog/editor positions, but I do know that when I interviewed at a station that was market 150-ish, one of the photogs was 16 years old and still in high school...if that's any indication for you.
Message: you need to go anyplace that will give you that opportunity. There are ways to get on-air by starting behind the scenes, but you'll get better, faster if you start on-air. The more you do and learn in that small market, the better equipped you'll be to move up.
