Message: A friend of mine moved from the 130's market as the Chief to the top 20's market doing weekends. The money was nice, but once you add the cost of living it didn't make that much of a difference. It was also a lot more stressful because he had more people to answer to. He's now out of the business making $80,000 plus and I've never seen him more miserable. So it's all about priorities. Money or happiness. I'm not saying that you can't be happy in a larger market, but it seems to me that the stress level may not be worth it. I am the chief in a 130's market making lower 40's (with more on the way) and quite content. To me, it wouldn't be worth making 50,000 to 60,000 in a larger market giving up my weekends. I don't have kids right now, but I can see how working my hours would reduce family time during the week. That's my 2 cents.
