In Reply To: And even then he isn't sure the first-class facility will be home to a first-place station. "We finally have the goods as a television station," Ahern said. "Illinois Associated Press named us the best newscast in the state of Illinois for the second year in a row based off our 6 p.m. news. Two years ago, we didn't have a 6 o'clock news. So I think we've come a long way." The question is how much further does Channel 2 have to go, and, more to the point, how much longer to get there?
Message: So I guess Joe has done all he's gonna do with the station. Now he's just waiting for people to watch. Sounds promising. For all his very expensive efforts, all he's got to show for it is the AP award. And I doubt his bosses are going gaga over it. Heck, WBBM got the same award when Lester (Holt), Linda (MacLennan), Steve (Baskerville), and Tim (Weigel) were there doing the news. You know, back when WBBM actually had a good team and nobody was watching. I honestly don't know what Channel 2's problem(s) is (are). Of course I have my theories, but who knows if I'm right so I won't say much. Personally, I'm not crazy about Antonio Mora and Diann Burns, but at the very least they're as good as Warner Saunders and Allison Rosati over at WMAQ and people watch them. Larry Wert's a lucky man. It's clear that Ahern is pinning all of his hope on time, time, some more time, and even more time. I guess only (more) time will tell. And it's probably not gonna have anything nice to say to Joe and the 'BBM crew.
