In Reply To: Well, ESPN has turned out the University of Oklahoma baseball coach for dropping two n-bombs during recent off-camera exchanges with ESPN reporters. No excusing for the head coach's language, but why does ESPN feel compelled to right all of the world's wrongs?? Former chess king Bobby Fischer called Dick Schaap a "jewish snake" after Schaap said Fischer didn't have a sane bone in his body. The ESPN suits sent Jeremy Schaap on a pilgrimage to Iceland to confront mean, nasty Fischer, and placed Steve Levy and Linda Cohn in the anchor chairs when SportsCenter led with the Fischer story a short time prior to when the Jeremy Schapp piece aired. When I see Cohn and Levy anchoring together, I think of an old Allan Sherman record - you know, the "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah" guy. A cut on the record was called "Harvey and Sheila." You going to blame me for making that connection, or should Allan Sherman be blamed for putting it out there in the first place?? Funny, I don't recall a "For Jewish Listeners Only" tag on the album wrapping. Stick to sports, ESPNites. You're barely passable in that regard right now, anyway.
Message: PC and PC Police are such such an easy outs for all kinds of things that people would like to be able to say. "Oh, excuse me honey, I meant to call you Ms Smith. Have to be 'politically correct' around here nowadays." Well, there are just some things you can't say and there are a few things that not even your PC can excuse. But, more fundamentally, since you're so pissed off at ESPN for being the ubiquitous PC cops, what would you have done? Would you have remained silent? Remember, the OU coach didn't try to manuever his way out of it. He said something highly offensive; a word that carries a high cost, but, perhaps, a word that you might find OK but, regrettably, too regulated by your PC police. Again, would you have remained silent? Sounds like it.
