Adding a little drama and a few "sexy" stories help keep people around. You can have the best tease about North Korea and Iraq attacks all you want. But, a lot of people just don't care anymore... unless you say the attacks are coming over here. The fact that all of these people are on this message board fired up about this story says to me that it should continue to be in the newscast. Isn't this what we do? We not only inform people about their community and safety, but we add stories that get people talking? Perhaps they'll tune back in and say "hmm, I wonder what's happening with her now?" I work in a market where there's lots of local news. Police chase, baby murdered, police officer attacked... etc. But, the runaway bride was the story EVERYONE was talking about in our newsroom. And that's sometimes a clear indication of what others are thinking. We, journalists, are regular people too, right?

Nearly EVERY woman in my newsroom immediately blamed the fiance (looked like a killer, only logical answer, etc etc).
I told them to look at her eyes. The starey, spacey she look she had made it pretty obvious that she was (and probably is) certifiable.
Can't wait to get back to work and have a little fun with the girls. As for the fiance', this is the luckiest thing that ever happened to him.
