THIS question..my understanding is the coach is white..what if he'd been BLACK, and said EXACTLY the same thing, word-for-word???..and please don't tell me a black man would never have used the "n" word..i hear them do it virtually every day with each other... |

That's what Bette Davis's character told Joan Crawford's in a movie* when Crawford, in a wheel chair, complained that, were roles reversed, she wouldn't be treating Davis that way.
Davis was pointing out the obvious: 'Blanch, you can't walk'!.
The obvious in the OU coach's situation is this:
IN 2005, anyone in a position of responsibility and talking to reporters or within ear shot of someone who might drop a dime, just doesn't use that word. And, also doesn't use it TWICE!!!!
What if a Black guy said this? What if a White guy said that? It's all hypothetical.
Coach Cochelle said something repugnant and stupid.
It's too bad that he fell on his own sword, that he voluntarily pushed himself down on his own sword. He did something that carries with it a very high price. Today, he's paying it.
While it's pretty ig'nant to use the word, it's ig'nant times 10 over to use it where he did.
Orthicon, respectfully, we're talking about one guy using the word---TWICE, not other guys who might use it!
