I'm in the LA market too... and have certainly (and recently!) been in the same boat. Let me know if you need advice. |

If being a reporter is truly your dream and you just chose to take the broadcast avenue; then most likely you'll advance fast and you won't have the money worries long.
And even if you don't advance, all the people I know who LOVE reporting can't seem to leave even though they know the money isn't always right.
But the people who "just want to be on t.v." are the first ones to bail when they realize they may not be on the fast track to fame and fortune.
If you haven't noticed, but with the reality craze, there are a dozen ways to get on t.v. without going to college four years and doing an internship, so if that's really the ultimate goal check the MTV website for the next casting of the real world.
There are moments I may look back on all the parties I missed in college because I was working on the radio, newspaper and trying to take a full load of classes on an academic scholarship or how many years I missed Christmas, etc
But right now, since I'm still relatively young and single, I'm still happy with my choice because I am the ONLY one of all my friends who is truly doing a job I enjoy and intended to do. I actually look forward to going to work and sometimes the weekend seems to long, especially if a great story is in the works.
Some of my buddies might make a little more cash, but nearly al are miserable because they chose a career based on money or the ease of finding a job in the field and then found out they hate what they have to do for 40+ hours a week.
They are now in the unenviable position of trying to change careers while keeping food on the table for the wife and kids most acquired in the 10 years since we graduated from high school.
