The simple fact is she had no idea about context...had little notion of the importance nor the impact of what she was reading. She simpy could not respond to Q's like: "what's all that mean, do ya think" from IMUS who I might add is very perceptive.
The inhouse chatter was that Contessa was doomed from the start.

How the hell was she supposed to respond knowing that she was being set up for a slam no matter what she said? She couldn't defend herself properly in that situation because her balless management would have reprimanded her. She was in a no win situation and she acted with dignity and integrity.
