In Reply To: When people assume, it makes an ass out of u and me... Or in this case you. Because I didn't vote for him. Twice. Not that that's any of your business. Maybe you missed the part where I said it's the president of the United States. I don't care who it is, I want to hear him. Or hopefully one day, her. I respect the office. I am aware of the polls, his policies, and politics. Which makes it all the more important to hear what he has to say. Maybe you're not aware of a law that states the airwaves must provide a public service and I can think of no greater public service than carrying a once-a-year press conference with the president.
Message: SouthernKim, I never said that you did or did not vote for Bush Lite, nor did I assume you did. But I just simply adore that hackneyed 'assume' line. It's precious. Keep it for your newscast. Maybe Bush's RARE press conferences wouldn't be such a big deal if he didn't make an intentional and concerted effort to shut out the press on a regular basis, as when the sh*t hits the fan. Now, all of a sudden, after 2 months of failing to sell the American public on his Social Security / Investment bank enrichment scheme, now we need a press conference. Sure, you can ASSUME that the White House didn't know about May sweeps. They strike you as a non-media-savvy group, do they? Also, Bush has his SOTU and his bully pulpit, not to mention GOP rallies masked as "town squares", to promote his highly unpopular agenda, so why interrupt "The O.C."? As for your quaint belief in "a law that states the airwaves must provide a public service...", I simply refer to Exhibit A: Sinclair.
