always thought it was a weak crutch used by local news people to blame their bad ratings on the lead-in.
and it's a crutch they don't even use fairly..
if a good lead-in delivers a big audience that translates to a good news rating, then they "had a great show."
they never say "well, it was the lead-in."
if your news ratings are bad, why not look in the mirror?
