If you are even complaining that these firms do not value you enough, you have a seriously warped perspective of life. You are receiving $2,000+ a week. You recieve enough money to pay for your next year in law school by working for part of a summer. They wine you and dine you at the finest restaurants (especially good food if you are fortunate enough to be SF). Shower you with gifts like palm pilots and leather bags and you are going to make a fuss about whether these firms value you.
If you are viewing life simply through a materialistic view, then clearly they value you enough. There is little more you could ask for, especially considering how relaxed most firms are with summer associates. You are essentially being paid to have a good time. It is a glorified recruitment effort.
If you actually wonder if these firms value you as a person and as someone worth respecting opposed to simply the next rainmaker, then a large corporate firm is the last place to look. Just by seeing the amount of money being dropped on a law student is enough to speak towards the fact that they view you as someone who can be bought. And it is hardly because of who you are that you are being showered with money. They can just as easily give this money to the next person in line with out losing a second of sleep at night because they could not secure you. But something about the tone of your message tells me that this is really the least of your concerns.
I'm not saying you are wrong for wanting to receive the market rate for the work you will perform. I don't know many people who would go out of their way to receive pay below market value, but to think that you are undervalued because you are only receiving $2,400 instead of $2,404 paid per week at a crosstown firm is insane. Realize the luxury that is being given to you.
