I recently interviewed with Skadden NY for a legal assistant position. As soon as I met with the legal recruiter, the expression on her face and the questions she asked told me that I would not be welcomed. I strongly feel the reason for her behavior was because I am black. The very next day I received a letter in the mail stating that they are unable to offer me a position. I was not surprised. Can anyone please tell me if it is common for law firms not to hire minorities as legal assistants? I have heard many stories from people about not getting a job because of their ethnic origin. I never though in a million years that I would experience something like this, especially from a prestigious law firm like Skadden.
