In Reply To: While all everyone is writing is true, I firmly believe strategy firms are here to stay for the long term, especially the big ones with long histories and long resumes. I say this because I believe people will eventually start to get tired of "pre-IPO" hype that doesn't materialize. A lot of dot coms are fronts for sweat shops and pipe dreams, where the founders who take on all the risk are pocketing all the cash in exchange for never-to-be-seen equity. Also, dot coms that make it will always have a need for strategy consutlants, because technology and consumer demands change so quickly all the time. Strategy firms will also always attract the MBAs and undergrads who find consulting sexy. Let's face it. Even if strategy consulting can become monotonous for many of us, for those of us who've never been exposed to it, strategy consulting is a great place to start learning about how to run a business properly. Hence, it's also an excellent training program for all the dot-com-wanna-bes. H
Message: It might be the situation that te "traditional" strategy firms have a hard time adapting to the "New Economy" (Whatever this might be, but this is a different topic). On the other hand, they are building a lot of their business on contacts with senior management and networking. This will allow them to keep a foot in the door.
