Hello!
I've recently gotten a job offer from State Farm in Bloomington, working as an auto claims rep.
I'm looking forward to the job, but part of it involves bilingual communication with customers whose English isn't that good.
Does anyone have any information about what the foreign-language proficiency exam State Farm uses involves? I'd appreciate knowing what sorts of things I might want to review.
Alternatively, any information about what it's like to work in claims central would be handy.
Thanks a lot. |

Haven't heard anythng about foreign-language proficiency. This must be something new to appeal to our "diverse" society. My rebuttal is, THIS IS THE UNITED STATES. EITHER LEARN THE DAMN LANGUAGE, OR CONSIDER MOVING BACK TO AN AREA IN WHICH YOU CAN COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY. As far as claims central, I can only repeat what I was told by two close friends, one worked in Oklahoma, the other in Kansas. The common term was "sweat shop". Apparently turnover rate was very high. This was only the opinion of two recent graduates that "gave it a try", but moved on to alternate employment. It may be different for you-good luck.
