People are always talking about how they networked at this party and that bar, but I have never been to one! How do you get invited to these things, or on the list or whatever? What's a good place to hang out to meet people in creative industries? I am a freelance graphic designer - maybe i've been spending too much time in front of my computer, because i am not exactly meeting all these people to schmooze with? Where should i go? |

To respond to the graphic artist who doesn't know where to go to network:
Friends from school are a great place to start. Arrange for several of you to meet for happy hour at a local bar. Tell friends to "feel free to bring people from work." Repeat process every Thursday (Thursday is usually a popular day for after work socializing. The more crowded the bar, the more fun people will think they're having.) It doesn't matter if your friends aren't in your field. The key is to get them to bring work buddies, roommates, significant others, etc. As your circle expands, you're more likely to meet others from your field.
