I hope you all realize this, but this could be the most far out page on this site. Schmoozing. SCHMOOOOOOOOZING. I hereby invite any and all schmoozers of the world to submit tales of schmoozing prowress. Here's an example, albeit a slightly crazed one. One of my bosses knew a guy whose boss smoked. To schmooze more perfectly, the guy picked up the habit. That's some extreme schmooze. I wouldn't recommend it. Anyways, go for it, y'all. |

YOU asked for it!
Ok here goes...how "I" shmooze...
First, you need to know and to understand one thing....and one thing alone and that will make you a great shmoozer. And that concept is, when it comes to networking "it is a small world". Remember that, and you will be able to meet and shmooze with almost anyone you want in life. People who don't remember this, and who treat others as though they will never need them or want to talk to them, end up ticking people off when my axiom comes to pass and they invariable meet that person.
To shmooze properly, you need two things: (1) a goal, that is who you want to network with and for what purpose and (2) an absolute determination to accomplish that goal.
You make a list of things you want to accomplish. Then, when you meet someone that can assist you to meet that goal, you shmooze with him/her.
Listen carefully when shmoozing, you may hear names of people you will want to shmooze with in the future.
An example - I am a partner in a coporate finance consulting business. My partner and I were meeting with some lawyers for the purpose of networking. I had met these lawyers online at a law/technology discussion forum. While talking with them in their office, one of them mentioned a lawyer who might be of help to us to network with "Ira" something. (He couldn't recall the last name) who had a very busy internet practice. That night I coincidentally got on the internet and joined a convergence discussion list hosted by Jason Calcunis of the Silicon Alley Reporter. The members of the list were introducing themselves because it was a new list, when I spotted "Ira" something on the list. I knew it was him from the description of his practice. You see, it IS a small world, shmoozing-wise!
