You can have lunch with people every day of the week if your motivation is sincere.
With strangers or new acquaintances, it's hard to overcome the "what's really going on here" factor.
You must be totally up front on your intentions when you suggest a lunch. If you are looking for leads, say so. If you are looking for a job, say so.
If you want to learn more about a person, and think a lunch is a great way to get to know one another, put those feelings into words.
If you are looking to get a date under the disguise of a business lunch, forget it. You'll be transparent, and lose all credibility.
Be yourself, be sincere, and have reasonable expectations.
