If you are currently trading corporates you and your buddies on other desks should be able to figure this one out. Not much demand for corporates right now on the institutional side (except maybe hedge funds) but Jumping to CDS seems pretty extreme. Why dont you just ask if you can start working on some CDS shit as well as doing corporates?

I have mentioned it, trading CDSs i mean. but being the most junior guy on the desk doesn't exactly make my opinion the most sought after. plus my boss is pretty conservative when it comes to these new derivative products. i guess he's like warren buffet when it comes to these "new fangled" instruments. right now i'm just monitoring CDS spreads (among other things) for info to make a trade. i know, pretty boring stuff. that's why i'm thinkin' of not just monitoring, but actively trading/marketing/selling. but is there a future ?? i guess i could join a bank, their big buyers of CDS to protect their loans, but how hard is it to join such a desk ?? they must get thousands of applicants ... thanks for you input by the way.
