...that i mean respect from academics. It seems strange to me that at universities professors scoff at technical analysts, yet they wholeheartedly endorse quants...in fact most good b-schools have quants among the faculty. Isnt a belief that quantative modeling can yield an edge inconsistent with the efficient market hypothesis, which is espoused at most colleges? |

Yes, most academics consider quant analysis superior but why do you care?
If I run a hedge fund that historically has returned 25% annually do you think that my shareholders care whether I am a quant or chartist? NO, at the end of the day trading is about P/L not which tools are used.
How many academics have actually obtained a as a trader or portfolio manager?
Scholes and Merton are arguably two of the most respected quants of all time but look what happened at LTCM...
