The time frame depends on the firm, but you can become a trader in a year or two. My firm trains you for a year before you go in to trade options. There is alot of potential to make money, as far as options you want to be trading in volatile markets and commodities are volatile. I dont know much about futures trading.
I dont know how IB's would look at it? But if your a good trader, trading nat gas or crude for example and making $$$$ who gives a fuck about I Banks.
With the impending war people are gonna make a shitload of money at the NYMEX. |

Thanks for the info. I think commodities will be very exciting in the next few years especially with gold breaking out from a 15 year downtrend. How much stress do you feel as a clerk? Does your firm make markets?
Also do you know any sites that list firms that trade on the nymex (besides the nymex site). I reponded to some ads in the NY Times but haven't heard anything (not sure of the firms - the e-mail addresses were at aol? - seems strange)
I'm 23 have been working at JPM in a tech related position for 1.5 years and am doing very well. But I don't want to be stuck their the rest of my life. I have developed a passion for trading and technical analysis. And would love a chance to do it every day. All-though floor trading is a little different.
Thanks
