I am a junior in college, want to get into S&T.. how important are programming skills? (C++, etc.)? I would rather take more finance and math classes, but would I be better served taking a couple C++ classes, or perhaps some other language?
Thanks |

is that you would be well served by both, depending upon where you look. My school doesn't offer finance, but there are courses in the Econ Dept. Its sort of expected that anyone interviewing for the job has taken these courses. That said, the most important thing they were looking for was quantitative ability, which CS will teach you. From there, choose wisely. Quantitative strategy requires CS, and Math. Can't speak for trading. But there are roles within banks and hedge funds who would want you to design algorithms to read the markets.
