In Reply To: Birdie is pretty much right although market makers do take a position if they feel that their position is agreeable with the direction the market is going they will make their quote so that the market user ringing them will not take currency off them and in that way they build up aposition, I sat with amrket makers and hated it it's not vyer enjoyable. Get yourself onto a proprietary desk, they have real good fun you know. Yes and no to needing a degree, I don't have one and I am doing ok but it took me a year to educate myself about the business and to get interviews form banks it is not easy but well worth it, you can get in with an undergrad degree no problem , what is your position relating to education work experience etc. Some of the people in fx were there in the 80's and they do not have degrees so these nicer people are prepared to give you a chance. Birdie did they have a proprietary desk where you worked why not try getting on there? Are you a prop trader now or market maker in equities?
Message: We did not have a separate prop desk. The market makers took intra day (some overnight / and longer) positions. I am out of work actually and I am looking for a job. I am looking for an assistant trading position on an equity desk.
