I've heard unlike I-banking's 80 hr weeks, traders usually work more like 50-60 hr weeks (e.g., maybe 7:30a-6p). I hear they (obviously) have to be glued to the desk during mkt hours, and a few more outside that. Can anyone confirm this or give a better sense of the hours.
I'm aware while one might be able to cut out at 6 or 6:30 as a trader, the work itself is very intense, the environment stressfull, and the stakes high. |

Ok, so the hours are reasonable. How about the work & environment? My inference is the technical side is mostly a function of quick math & a feel for the mkt, but the trading environment is stressful. Given most decent jobs have an element of stress as a given, what would you say trading work is like? How intense is it really. (My guess is very)
