In Reply To: I am currently working in Global Institutional Services at an Investment Bank in NYC. I have been here for 2 years, and know that this is not for me. I am really interested in getting my foot in the door to a sales/trading desk as an assistant. I was wondering if you had any advice as to how I can catch a break? Thanks!
Message: By far the easiest way is to network with those who actually work on the trading desk. If you have any co-workers who know of people, have them introduce you. Start hanging out at their after work drinking holes. Just try and make friends with them, as they will be your best source of insider info. Jobs may not be available now, but if you let them know that you are interested, when a position becomes available, you are more likely to have a shot at interviewing for that spot. Just working at an i-bank gives you an advantage compared to outsiders. I have many friends who have moved on to trading desks thru this route. Good luck.
