I thought it refers to underwriting or something.
Are the places you mentioned big players in proprietary trading? I don't think ML is, and there are bigger places than Goldman and Morgan. Maybe their reputation is better though...
Out of interest, which one of those three do you work for? I would probably guess ML by the way you put it in with the other two. |

Goldman is tops in prop trading. Merrill is tops in institutional order flow. Morgan Stanley isn't tops in any category but ranks in the top 3 among many different ones. The other Wall Street firms usually battle for 4th place in any given year.
