I'm a 19 yr. old aspriring to be a trader, though i'm a bit confused. I notice that on the NYSE (well, more so on the NY Mercantile exchange, since i live right next to it) that the traders gathered outside for smoke breaks look like ex-convicts, and not like they are financial guru's or sharp people who could get what are known to be lucrative trading positions. Am i missing something? are these guys "runners"? they have "millenium futures", "pioneer options" jackets on, so i think they are forreal. they wear basketball shoes with khakis, and they look like they haven't washed their hair in 5 days. it's not uncommon to see a hoop earring hanging out of their ears. i hear them talking, and they don't exactly sound like the smartest individuals either. is this industry more about who you know? HOW DID THESE PEOPLE GET THE JOBS GOING ON INTERVIEWS LIKE THAT??? i'm being serious. i want to go into trading, but i want the scoop. am understand everything right? do some of these guys just have bs jobs, or what...please let me know. maybe when they say it's the opposite of i-banking, they mean in ALL aspects.it's just hard to imagine those guys i see are making 150K a year |
