My first internship was working as a sales assistant for a small broker dealer. I won't say they were doing anything illegal, but they weren't exactly saints either. The name on the door is different, but the folks in those firms are always the same. I'm only glad that I got the hell out of that type of environment.
If you want to cold call for a living, go to Merrill, Morgan Stanley, SSB, PW, or any other number of reputable wirehouses. Those guys are usually hiring new brokers, they don't have empty spare rooms with phones in case the SEC shows up, and the base salary is probably higher. |

"dude, that guy makes more that you" is what you will think if you take the job. If you want hit or miss broker job in NY, check your pulse. you're smart enough to look on these boards, then believe me you're smart enough to start in a legit retail broker program. 5 minutes on careerbuilder, monster, or hotjobs will spit out every firm across the board: pru, msdw, merrill, pw, etc.
