In Reply To: The firm I work for, which happens to be one of the largest on Wall Street, has the "regular" training that you talk about. Trust me, if you're not cut out to be a trader, all the training in the world isn't going to help you. Huge difference between mock trading and real trading.
Message: It sounds like wgeehreng, merlin!, & Pimp Diddy all seem to be saying that an MBA is not really necessary for landing a trading job. Apparently an MBA from a top program will be useful in landing interviews, but not really that important as far as gaining the knowledge needed for trading and may even be seen as a bit of wasted effort by those doing the hiring. Am I understanding you correctly? Assuming I am, what sort of advice can you give on the differences between trading different types of products and the relative number of jobs in each? I do not have my heart set on a particular sector (FI or Equity for example--well, I might be a *little* partial to equities) because I assume that trading currency is pretty much the same as trading equities, fixed income, commodities, derivatives, etc. Am I right in making this assumption?
