How useful is it to be able to speak languages other than english, in either the US or London? (in a sales / trading position I mean). Also, which languages would be most useful and why? Spanish for the South American market? German? Japanese? Chinese? (future economic superpower?..)
I'm starting business school this fall, and am planning (hoping...) on a sales or trading career, probably in London but possibly in the US. The school has a requirement to know a second language, (which for me would mean starting as a beginner) so I figure I may as well pick one that's relevant to my future career intentions.
Thanks for any help you can provide. All opinions welcomed (even rude ones...) |

traders are arrogant and obnoxious. knowing how to speak another language will only bring the reputation of yourself and the rest of us in the industry down.
however, if you're using foreign languages to pick up women from that country, then it will prove most useful.
