thanks for your reply. what is IMHO? also, say that i get a job as a clerk after undergrad at one of the specialist firms - would it be possible for me to exit to a regional or BB trading desk? i understand whats been happening down on the floor but working at the nyse is something that i've always wanted to do, even if its for a year or so? |

Highly unlikely, unless you went to a good school and are naturally intelligent and find some way of showing it on your resume. Why you would want to work on a sell side trading desk in general is beyond me.

I've seen many people turn "year or so" jobs into 20 year careers leading nowhere, especially on an exchange.
