Will I ever make money? |

Greetings. I work in advertising as an account executive. I have three years of strong agency experience and another year of experience at a newspaper. The problem is I don't make any money. Sure, the economy sucks and it hits us harder, but salaries appear to be the same regardless of city. I'm at 35K in Indiana (firm of 12). I've received offers from 25 person agencies in San Diego and LA for 37K and 38K.
I love advertising and dealing with clients, solving problems, presenting, etc. I'm a great writer and well liked. I work primarily with healthcare and b2b clients. I wanna be in a larger market working on the big names at a larger agency. (Not NY or San Fran but maybe Chicago, San Diego, LA, Dallas, etc.) I wanna work with great consumer clients. But I just turned 28 and I'm tired of being broke and working two jobs.
Also, I've referred to salary resources such as salary.com, and their numbers are way higher. But I think they tend to measure account executive salaries for those people who SELL advertising space/time and are, therefore, inaccurate.
Do I have to 'pay my dues' for 10 years? HELP! I think I'm going to go client side. (A Fortune 500 company in town starts out there marketing associates and corporate communciations associates at 50K...but it's a pharmaceutical.)
Any advice? PLEASE.
Stressed in the Midwest!
