Does anyone know if furniture purchases are valid relocation expenses?

Hi
relo expenses are usually reimbursed expenses that are a direct result of the move. The intent is usually to make the employee "whole". For example, moving van; househunting trip; final move trip. Sometimes companies will give a miscellaneous allowance of $2-5K which you can use for whatever.
Furniture purchases, no. Check out the Employee Relocation council I think it's www.erc.org if you need some benchmarking as to what types of things are normally reimbursed or allowed for.
