First, is the $500 a "one shot deal" for one week or are they effectively raising your salary by 26K/year ?
BIG DIFFERENCE!
What kind of job do you have that has a 100K/per WITH nothing outside of office hours?
In the vast MAJORITY of IT & consulting gigs (especially with the melt down econmy) if your ASKED to work off hours it really means YOU ARE EXPECTED to do it.
If you are LUCKY enough to have someone will ti increase your salary by approximately 25% you should jump at it.
Realistically, how often will 1st & 2ND level support need to get you involved? If they are so incompetant that your beeper is going through a battery a week then you might have legit concern but MY GOD, YOU MAKE 100K a year! Earn it!
What is this crap about "marginal financial utility" ? $500 a week is boat load of cash. You could lease a Porsche for that.
And it is NOT just about a cash. If you have the smarts to be looked at for 3rd level support it is a mark of dstinction. In my world a 3rd level support is HUGE.
Your firm NEEDS you genius. RIght now most places are looking for who they don't need. Step up to the plate and prove that you are worth it.
I'd love to know where you work & what you do... |

For $500 bucks a weekend, I will cover it for you. You would be crazy not to take that cash! I was level 3 support for a large auto company and I only got called when there was a total meltdown. I designed the trouble shooting documentation so they would almost never need to call. If you have the ability to write good documentation - This is free money! Take it...
