In Reply To: I am an engineer and I am considering a career change to mental health counseling. While I have looked at a multitude of salary surveys, they all indicate a very wide range in salary. Does anyone know what a first year counselor, joining an established private practice can expect to make in Colorado? I have seen anywhere from $16.00 - $50.00 per hour? Thankyou
Message: I used to work for a Behavioral Health Managed care company. What I have seen was that these are pretty cushy jobs. Insurance companys usually pay its providers (Counselors $45/hour, Psycologists $95/hour and Psychiatrists $125/hour). The medical/insurance industry is a good way to make money, but is very stressful. I don't know about colorado. This was in San Fran, but is pretty much the same everywhere I beleive. Good luck to you.
