Unless you know you want to work in Los Angeles after your MBA, perhaps in entertainment, Kellogg is your school. I'm an MBA student at a top 5 school, not Kellogg, and can tell you it makes a world of difference. Whether you want to work in banking or consulting, Kellogg will give you much better options than UCLA. While Kellogg is not necessarily thought of as a conduit into the banking world, I have a number of friends currently there that landed BB IB jobs. Chicago winters can be very tough (I grew up in Chicago), but the sacrifice is worth it for your career. Additionally, many people come to b-school knowing they want to be a banker, and then realize they would enjoy something else more. It is all about keeping your options open, which again means Kellogg over UCLA. |

Tanx for your answer.
My preference for both the mBA and the post mba job is CA, and specially South CA, but this is really biased by my wife preference, which will do count in my final decission.
On the other hand the people from Anderson to which I am talking to say that all big IB firms recruit on campus and if that is true I care much less on the rankings. My pint is: it may be hard to get interviews with all IB firms but once you are in the process it should all depend on how well you do rather than how you got there...
As you see I am biased to South LA, which is why I applied to UCLA since I tought it would be the best option to find the best option in South CA after the MBA...My concerns are more on the issue you raised regarding other options to consider which maybe be wider at Kellog...this a real headache for me, specially considering my current long distance from the US and the difficulties to obtain objective and valid opinions.
My first choice was Harvard but I am on its waiting list and I assume I will not be able to wait until their final decission because I should answer to one of those two schools by the first week of May. I really would welcome more feedback from you and other peers. Thanx again
