In Reply To: Depending on whether you are already in government, it can take quite a while to move up the GS scale to 100k. Getting hired from the outside is very time consuming. Usually 100k commands at least - at LEAST - 12-15 years of experience, depending on location. Best of luck!
Message: It's not necessarily true that it takes a long time to get to that salary level in government anymore. Some agencies, faced with baby boomer retirement, are developing programs to fast-track professionals into executive positions. There are also alternative pay scales in some agencies (usually related to financial industry regulation) that dole out salaries significantly higher than the regular 'ol GS pay scale. In sum, there are possibilities for the right person in the right agency. It's no longer true that one has to pay 10-15 years of dues before reaping the financial rewards. And, all along the way, you are compensated with other types of awards. :)
