I hear that RB is a superstar in Europe and Asia. How are they in the US? Any plans to further penetrate US consulting scene? |

RB tried to penetrate the US consulting scene quite agressively starting in 1998.(Prior to that the presence was essentially 1 or 2 people, a meeting room and a phone number). At one point they had >60 employees in Detroit and New York, and founded a tiny San Francisco.
Thanks to incompetent US partners, poor entry strategy, and an arrogant German management board this attempt failed miserably. It is a good case study in mismanagement....someone should write it for HBS!
I know this because I joined the New York office as a junior consultant. There were a handful of really professional, very smart partners and project managers that I met from RB worldwide but a lot of terrible ones too. I am glad I got out of there after having some good personal success and making some good business relationships. Now I work for a company I am proud of and colleagues I respect.
Do yourself a favor and don't risk your career potential by affiliating yourself with Roland Berger in the US.
It is really too bad that they couldn't create a "Strategy that Works" for their own company. Potential clients should take heed.
