Please qualify a couple of things for me. I am trying to be as objective as possible.
What kinds of 'studies' did you perform?
What were some of the behaviours that were different from other groups?
What kind of screening are you doing prior to hiring your candidates?
A quick point. There are terrible workers in every ethnic/minority/majority group...
You have to try to weed them out... Do you check references? Do you verify all college degrees (even if not applicable to the job description)? What kinds of questions do you ask when you perform interviews?
Please respond. I think this is an extremely interesting topic. |

I performed a study starting in Jan of 99 until Dec 31st of 99. The study consisted of 3 parts.
1) attendance
2) customer complaints/service
3) accuracy of job performed(number of "mispulls")
a:)mispulls in my industry are a direct mistake made by an employee due to carelessness in reading job order. I reviewed the job orders to make sure that they were correct before counting a strike against an individual.
Due to the fact that 88% of my company consist of warehouse, and lite clerical... there is not a great deal of background checks or lengthly recruiting efforts. I simply contact previous employers to see if I can get some information on past performance. Every individual goes through the same set of questions on the initial interview and must pass criteria involved or else they cannot work for me.
My results:
1)attendance--- Blacks were 32% more likely to be tardy, 36% absent 65% more no call no showed
2)Customer Complaints--- Whites totalled for the year 108 complaints. Asian 84 complaints. Hispanics 79 complaints. African Americans 203 complaints. (Keep in mind that African Americans only make up about 28% of my company.
3)# of mispulls. whites--259 Asians--201 hispanics--278 Blacks--462
These are direct factual #'s taken in reports over a one year period. No biases... just facts.
