Lying in Corporations with Help from HR |

In my last two places of employment the last few pieces of hope I had about integrity were demolished. At a large Cargo Airline based in the center of the nation, I founded a whole new department. I had 28 years of experience leading in that field plus a BS and MS in it. I was a proven Manager and Leader. The large corporation even has a Leadership Manual written by its founder. Yet, when I was blatantly discriminated for being Hispanic, and over 55, the Director above my boss suspended me for a week, with pay, for challenging my boss's discriminatory practices. Yet, there was a grievance process clearly outlining that no retaliatory actions would be taken against an employee for following the process. Most managers however, publically stated that any member of Management that used the process would commit suicide. That is exactly what happened. A company based on employee trust, and service, became discriminatory, hypocritical, and violating of EEOC policies to protect a rat, and all with the help of HR people afraid to go to bat for the employee.
I early retired from that corporation in disgust. At least I got good benefits, but left totally humiliated. In my rush to leave I was recruited by a TV Channel "News" organization related to a Science. The parent company also had a specific set of policies to protect hiring from within, no harassment, no discrimination. The Sr. VP and the President prohibited any supervisors, managers or Directors to go to HR with any employee problems. The purpose was to hide from HR. The employee turnover became almost 100% in three years, and the whole chain of command has been undermined by a salesman president and a sixties hippie
VP who also hide everything from each other.
HR stood by while I was denied the opportunity to seek Medical Help for stress related ailments that resulted from being commanded to be in Santiago, Chile, while attending Planning Meetings, conducting Company Quality Action Teams, and answering the phones in my office all at the same time.
After I negotiated a severance package, my job minus the title was blatantly given to a supervisor with much less money.
Net result: I have dropped out of the labor force after 38 years, three Masters degrees,
and having founded two departments for two large corporations which then proceeded to ignore their precepts on leadership, and
responsible treatment for their employees
while HR idly stood by and watched.
Advice for employees: Never, ever trust any HR supervisor, manager, director or VP to look out for your rights or defend you.
Signed,
Totally burned out with US Cruel Entities called Corporations. Especially in the TV
industry (Read Robert Mc Neill's book on the TV anchor people industry).
