Dear Sam,
I'm not sure why you are lumping all human resource people into the same barrel. In my last position at a company of only 300 employees, the employees were always priority one. I feel bad for you and anyone else who has worked for a company that has considered you a number. Please believe me when I say that we hired strong, intelligent, team oriented people who could bring a sense of family to a corporate environment. I was the recruiter for this company and had to counsel the employees during lay offs. My door was always open and any question or issue was always dealt with in a timely and respectful manner. I know you don't think that Human Resources is a value to any company because we don't physically create the end product, but we hire and maintain the work environment which promotes productivity. Please don't lump us all together. I took great pride in the fact that even though I was laid off and moved from California to Florida, many of the employees from that company e-mail me on a daily basis.I would really hate to work for a company that had such a Human Resource department that it would make someone talk so horrifically about them.

It's only normal that people get upset with HR now and then. We deal with hiring, firing, promotion and pay. All that stuff which people usually complain about. Not to mention that any "normal" manager will automatically blaim HR when employees complain. Most people that continue to complain about HR should take a good look in the mirror and try to find out why they are always passed for a promotion or pay increase when everyone else seems to be doing just fine. HR is a great profession. Unfortunately we deal with very sensitive issues and sometimes people get upset. However the added value of hiring the best is much higher than trying to save 1% on the use of copiers in the finance department.
