Our company employs a few interns each semester. Interns who are not receiving college credit for the position are typically paid a small amount of money for their work. We do hire interns who ARE receiving college credit for the position however, so we have not typically paid them in the past. I need to know what kind of obligation a company has in this situation--is a company still responsible for things like safety/workers comp and any other HR related issues like sexual harassment, insider trading, company policies/procedures, etc. for a person who is not on its payroll?
Thanks in advance for any information
