In Reply To: It??s what you must do to eliminate undesirables. Perhaps the client thinks tall guys are professional ?? eliminate the short guys. Perhaps they want WASPs ?? make sure you see them in case they??ve changed their name. Perhaps they want the GQ look like the big ten firms ?? make sure they don??t wear clothes from Walmart (like Ligntner). Make sure they don??t have warts, bad teeth, an Afro, and while you??re at it, make sure the Afro-Americans are dressed like whites. Meeting them in person is important because that provides the opportunity to eliminate them for cosmetic reasons. Forget the resume, forget phone interviews, see them. Remember what Fernando said: ??It??s better to LOOK GOOD than to feel good??.
Message: Geeez. I mention I've bought a couple cute little t-shirts at Walmart and I get tagged as a fashion boo boo. Did you forget the majority of my wardrobe is from Italy and Paris my friend? But now this is interesting and brings me back to my topic of Meeting Candidates Face to Face. I asked this question because I find that for some of the reasons you all mentioned, if I meet the individual right away WITHOUT first having some indepth phone discussion, I more likely to judge them on appearance as opposed to what they have to say. Isn't this the same thing we do over the net? In here, the Colonel, Sam and Contractor and I have been acting like a bunch of battlebots (I read what they were in another thread and it describes us in here to a tee) for several weeks. But I can almost bet that if I met them face to face, we would have a completely different communication experience. Therefore, I think it's very important to spend a good deal of phone time with someone before our individual astheic prejudices get in the way of good judgement.
