Message Name: I turned one down for location
Date Posted: 10/06/2000
In Reply To: A new survey showed that job location, along with salary, had an effect on job acceptance. This makes sense to me. Has anyone turned down a job because of the location? I'd like to hear stories. What if the salary was more than you were expecting, but the location was horrible?
Message: The salary offer was for $9000 more than I am making in my current city but would have taken me back to the city I relocated here from (back to the West Coast). I turned it down. The money would have been $8000 more than I was making when I lived there last year but.... location means alot. Being happy with where you live and the lifestyle that brings is more important to me than a few thousand dollars. Now, if it had been $20,000 chances are I would have sold out.
