Message: Yes, I do feel blessed to have a week to evaulate my thoughts and I am aware that not everyone does. As far as being in perfect agreement with me, no. I have hired people that had very differing opinions on certain aspects of the position, and I hoped that they would have a dynamic influence on those coworkers around them. What a horrid life we would lead if we were all the same. I do feel however, that some individuals I have interviewed did not not learn from their previous experience and while they certainly have the right to repeat their mistakes as many times as it takes, I would rather they did it with another company. I would love to hire lifelong learners with out of the box thinking. As far as my company, we are constantly striving for excellence. Perfection is nuerotic, and no company, applicant or employee is perfect. We are allowed to make mistakes and those are always discussed in private. If I have a problem with my job or a person I interact with, I am required to discuss it with the person that can solve the problem, not 50 of my closest email buddies. So no, I don't gossip behind anyone. In closing, I always ask the applicant for a week. I tell them I understand if they need to move faster and know that someone else may grab them. I generally respond within 48-72 hours. I haven't had any compliants on that from either management or applicants. My point was that I don't have a pile of numbers on my desk that I haven't called back and don't intend to. Happy recruiting!
