from a co-worker in the NYC office, we do indeed do TRM work for a few banks.
our chicago office has a solid data mining group, we actually had to call them in on the client we just rolled off.
it is true that there is alot of SOX work in the firm. but as said, if you work your contacts correctly, you can get away from SOX, provided the MD's in the office have brought in enough non-SOX work. I've moved on to a pure internal audit project for a few months, so I'm happy.
Protiviti does pay well. I left a public accounting firm and am making $6000 more at the same level.
