In Reply To: I have testified in front of a court a number of times and provided expert testimony on accounting and industry specific matters. Each case I have testified in has resulted in a favorable outcome for my client. While I don't expect to win them all, expert testimony is viewed as just that.
Message: As the originator of this post, I would first like to thank everyone for their response. I am disappointed at the tone of some of the messages. Clearly nothing is extreme. No one thing is clearly better than the other, i.e. there are ups and downs to everything you do. I do believe we should express our opinions, views, and experiences, but just that. There is no need to retaliate against each other. Yes there are benefits to working in private and yes there are benefits to working in public. It's just that for myself and some of the others in this post, we have decided to work in public. I just want to stress that no one is better than the other. This post is simply to share our views and experience and not to attack each other's position and decision as to where to work. As a new associate I know that the hours are harsh at times with limited payout, but I have to admit that I learned so much in months that I may not have been able to learn elsewhere. As to clients talking behind our backs, I'm not surprised. I know that clients are annoyed of us with our multiple requests, but just as a reality check, people are people, we say the same things about our clients. There are clearly intelligent people in both sides of the fence and again there are the dimmer bulbs. Trust me, I have much more to say about my clients. Auditing is thankless at times. The client is constantly annoyed with us (not to overgeneralize, just in my experience with some personnel) but hey, someone has to do it. In doing so, we gain a lot of exposure and learn a great deal, I guess I learned that is a reward. It's true that at times we're stuffed in the worst room with improper ventilation and cramped with others with hardly any space to work at times (again, not to overgeneralize, just my experience)and we are not the client's priority, but we are protecting the public through our audits. Think about the amount of fraud and corruption that can go on without our audits. Just to conclude, I acknowledge the pros and cons of both sides of the fence, I respect everyone's opinion and just don't feel that it's necessary to attack one another's views. Best to all!!
