In Reply To: I respect auditing I really do - but try not to get too carried away with yourself. You can present your little audit opinions to F500 CFOs and audit committees all you want - at the end of the day you're an auditor. Your job is to doublecheck statements - the companies you work for see you as a necesary evil - thats why they put you in rooms with no windows and make fun of you over lunch with their coworkers. Give me a call when these companies start soliciting your advice on M&A or managing operations (beyond simply footing their reporting of it). If it makes you feel fancy/prestigious to be dealing with the 'F500' - by all means I won't take that away from you. Maybe if you're lucky one day you'll get to double check something I worked on and then report your findings to my CFO.
Message: cbone42, If everything F500 did was without error there wouldn't be any need for auditors. I don't think I've ever heard of an audit being completed without errors being detected. You are absolutely correct in that auditors are there to double check your work; you forgot to add that auditors are also paid to give an expert opinion on it. (emphasis on expert) tick'n'tie
