In Reply To: I've found that some people tend to work long hours or stick around the office because they feel pressured to do so. I've never really felt bad about saying, ok it's time for me to go home and not care what other people think. No one has ever complained about my work performance because I do my work, but don't feel like it's necessary to hang around just to hang around. Anyway, that's why I might give it a shot because I have to see if it really is a bear to work there, or if people make it worse for themselves by self-imposed pressures.
Message: Get the job done, get it done right, and go home. This profession can easily brainwash you into the idea that work = life. You've got to manage yourself like a business, and when the costs (i.e. hours, frustration, travel) start to outweigh the gains (experience, pay, opportunity), then you know its time to close up shop. You REALLY need to stick up for yourself at these big firms and fight for your free time becasue fat, drunk, and talking about GAAP at the office christmas party is no way to go through life!
